Campaigning through ad banners have been a major part of the WWW since its inception. Designers day and night look for new designs that will catch the surfers’ attention and make them click on the banners. Here are some of the unique, yet interesting techniques to generate the most successful banner designs.

Visitors might have seen the slogan “Do Not Click Here” in a banner. What will the visitor do when he/she first see it?  What else? Click on it. What compels the visitor to click the banner when he/she sees such a very simple sentence? ‘Curiosity’-that is the answer. Copywriters and designers always try their best to raise the curiosity of the audience through innovative ad banners, ignoring completely the other elements, more important to the website owner. Since the slogan “Do Not Click Here” does not mention anything about what is on the next page it arouses the visitors’ curiosity to click on the banner to see what is behind it. 

Simple integrated designs play a big role in the success of a banner ad. Introducing the product “Google” to the investors, the owners mentioned ‘Adwords’ as a backup option in the case of a failure. But eventually they had to use the backup plan and those seemingly ‘boring’ ads made a great success even though the ads do not arouse the viewers’ curiosity or disturb the major elements of the website. But Adwords look like a part of the search results and give the viewers a feeing that they asked for it. No doubt, this very simple ad design helps Google immensely to promote their search engine and the Adword advertising program as well.

Interactive technologies like Flash are applied to generate banners that allow the visitors to participate in the action that could be accomplished in various methods. Some designers use popular elements of old games as part of the scene. The user is made to take part in the action and at the right moment when he/she is at a relaxed mood the user is shown the sales message. These interactive banners have proved to be very effective. The major drawback with such a banner is that most webmasters do not permit them because it causes too much distraction from the vital web page contents.

Black and white ad banners have again found a place in the web sites, Even though blue and yellow are the most effective colors to use in a banner, black and white banners have made appearance lately. These banners may eventually vanish from the scene; the idea is to try something different and to make the viewer click it in wonder to see what is stored for him/her.

Thus creative thinking in the designing of ad banners can bring its reward, ‘Money’; in addition it can create a whole new trend.
